sunroof retro-fit???

Hi,has anyone any ideas about fitting a sunroof in my 5 door freelander?ive contacted 2 companies local to me and 1 said they could fit a pop-up type(which is what i want)and the other said that he could not fit pop up type because of side impact bars in roof and not allowed to cut them? so could only fit a top mounted electric type??
Im just wondering who is right and would like to hear from somone else who has had one retro fitted??

If it was me, I definately wouldnt get a sunroof fitted, regardless of whether its do-able or not. I think the chances of it being a perfect seal are unlikely. When you come to sell it, people would be put of by the fact that it has a non standard sunroof (ie, somebody other than LR cut a gaping hole in the roof) poss opening the new owner up to lots of issues with leaks etc.

Purely my two pence worth, but I think it'd be a bad idea.

hmmm, have mine i wish i could get rid of it. sunroofs in a freelander dont work, infact sunroofs in general always leak in the end and if your bald u will just get sun burn .

i would suggest since LR do not fit the pop up type that i have ever seen in a FL i would suggest that the electric guy is right, but honestly is it really worth it? prob cheaper to sell yours and buy one with one in it already..... but then again if you did this that would either leak or not work anyway

I had the same reply about the strengthening bars when I asked about a sun roof so I bought some wind deflectors for the front windows and drive with the window open a bit

I have a sunroof in mine, I hate it already. It doesn't open or close properly. If someone presses the switch, it will stay in its upright position and won't close. Highly annoying! I am just gonna disconnect the switch when I get round to it. In general, I don't like them at all, just one extra thing to go wrong. Plus, what's the point? Most modern cars (and decently specced FL's) have aircon and in our climate, the blowers alone are often more than adequate.

Some people say they like the sunroofs for the light. That said, the Freelander has 8 windows! What more could they want? Jesus.

I stopped doing that when I found out that it reduces fuel efficiency by up to 10%. When it's unbearably hot, you may as well turn on the aircon or put the blowers up on full. Tbh, the latter is usually adequate for me, and I'm not one for heat.

The freelanders with a sunroof as standard have a depression in the roof which will have been made in the body press. The seals fit around this. Without this it may be very hard to get a good seal.

My sunroof hasn't broke yet, i keep it greased regularly.

I bought mine with a faulty sunroof. I just went to the scrap yard and picked one up to 100 quid and many more goodies (scrap yards are heaven to me ).

Took me about an hour to fit it, about 1 min to fit the sunroof, 15 min to remove the roof carpet and 44 min to put the roof carpet back on , so needed another set of hands for that .

All is working perfect and perfect seal.

just take the fuse out and undo the 6 screws and take the sun roof of and put in the back that what i do on a sunny day good old british build
