Have a D90 300 TDi (1996) with new galv chassis which I brought recently with the intention of gradually improving during my weekends. On my first job - changing the oil - I had problem getting sump plug out. Noticed the thread was damaged so ordered a new one through Paddocks using engine number etc. Trying to fit it I find it wont engage with the thread. The old ones does engage. New plug too big? Should I get a tap and die set and recut the sump threads or old plug? If so what size is it likely to be and is it metric or imperial? The threads in Landyzone suggest M14.

If you do decide to run a tap through the sump drain hole I think it would be advisable to remove the sump to do this. This is the last place you want swarf whether it's steel, aluminium, brass or whatever.
