Sum one help!!!!! Am going to burn it

Hi every one
Can sum one plz help me how much back and forth move ment should there be in a steering box ball joint there is no up and down just a lot of back and forth and I getting a knocking though the steering wheel have changed the steering damper bushes as thay were worn but have to been out as is to cold lol

How bout changing ball joint?
Methinks they're somewhere about 10 quid at lrseries, so would be even less at paddocks

there should be no free play at all ,but ball joint will move as a ball joint ,hold onto drag link and get someone to rock steering wheel fairly hard you will feel it click if there is free play,unless steering box is central it will have some free play in it

Thanks I can't feel any up or down just I can get hold off the steering damper and move the lot bk and forth very easy all so how do I know if my steering box is central

From full left lock two whole turns centralises the box.
