stuttering td4

hope someone can shed a bit of light on this problem for me as im a newbie to landrover and diesel engines.
While driving everything seems fine till it gets to about 50 55 mph then it starts stuttering as if its misfiring then goes away at around 60 65mph and sometimes it seems worse than others no pattern.Cleaned egr valve changed filters no difference so now at a loss.
Second i have a obd2 cable connected to laptop but cant get it to connect via either vag com or scantool any hints i would be gratefull
And last of all im thinking of running on bio diesel in the warmer months has anyone experienced any problems with this and is there anything i need to know or do

OBD2 mode in VagCom should definitely work. Check out the wiring to the diagnostic socket and fuse 14.
If you can get it working you will be able view live data which should be of some help.
Bio diesel in Td4s is a no no. Seem to remember a warning inside the fuel filler flap.

When ours was stuttering erratically it was a dodgy electrical connection on one of the fuel sensors. Taking it off and on a few times helped. A bit of contact cleaner seems to have worked.

thanks ill try at the weekend i used the vagcom with the golf and it was a godsend so i just hope i can get it to work

Mine's is doing the same, engine light flickering as it stutters on cruise, can you let me know which connectors you cleaned?

the connection on the fuel rail pressure sensor is known to give trouble....

Symptoms sound pretty similar. Our problem one was the connector on the end of the block under the cover just here:

Thanks, i'll check that connector out before I take it in for a diagnostic check later today.

Edit - just WD40'd the fuel rail connector - may be sorted - no stuttering! Stupidly didn't fully connect one of the injector connectors but that's it hopefully. Will see if it runs ok tomorrow morning.

quick update ive tried all the suggestions to no avail and i cant get it to connect to the laptop but i have used car for a couple of days and noticed the stutter only happens when going downhill

hi running a 02 td4 on biofuel now for 3 years no probs what so ever just change fuel filter and make sure you get your biofuel from a good source get mine from ryebiol oils but dont run it on 100% at any time i do 50/50it will say dont use it in the manual and filler cap and the dealer will say no but u can .

Been putting Bio diesel in ours, it runs fine when mixed but if you use 100% bio it has trouble keeping the pressure when starting and cuts out. Think its a bit too thick on its own.

yep thats it never run it on 100% well thats 2 of us that run on it and think its great
