No not Mrs Bs usual friday posts (soz mrs B!), but a question about wheel studs. Just fitted me nice new shiny modulars :) (YAY!):D , but the studs are very short.Got the steel wheel nuts, not alloy wheel nuts but they only just seem to get a grip on the studs. They have the alloy wheel stud marking on them, straight line, do they need to be changed?Cheers.

I know that yu can get longer studs, so if in any doubt, I wud replace them. Better safe than sorry?
Was thinking that and got 300 miles to drive tonight:eek: .I know the studs ive got are suitbale for the alloy wheels and you shouldnt put alloys on if you dont have them (from the owners handbook and haynes) but it doesnt say the other way round.

dunno if it elps, but my 90 has got "steel" wheel studs and is fitted with modulars. the studs protrude 15mm through the wheel before the nut is fitted.

Cheers trewy, have you got a piccy withe the nuts on? Once ive got the nuts on the stud doesnt stick through them, the nut still has 3-4mm left.Doesnt sound right to me.

Wouldn't help - my nuts have a closed end.
Anyway, wheel studs should always protrude by 1 or 2 threads beyond a standard nut when tightened, so you need to change your studs.

Thats what i was thinking. It just isnt very safe looking to me.Looks like ill be changing me wheel studs then.:(

Thanks for the help daft n trewy. SPoke to a couple of local specalists and they only do one size stud. Im gonna have to check the wheel is fitting on the hub properly and if it is time for those extended studs.Might explain the "off balance" feel as well.

didnt i hear somewhere about wheel centres being diff sizes and some needing to be opened out because they foul on the hub centre - maybe this is your problem. be worth checking.

But i specicifcally asked the bloke at silver line and he sed he runs the same set up on his disco one on competitions.Im not confident in my fitting so ill check this first, but if theyve sent the wrong ones out ill be well narked!
