Stuck Handbrake... Keeps sticking in the on position, anyone know the reason for this, is it just adjustment?

Rust on backplate....
Shoe return springs weak....
Mechanical shoe actuator seized....
Cables frayed/rusted internally....
Heavy dust build up and damp.....

????

I only want to do the one job, can you pick just one please? you will work me to death, you guys are all doom and gloom lol

lol.

I'm presuming your handbrake is the shoe in disc affair, my first port of call would be discs off for a look see, have someone operate the handbrake, try to ascertain what is limiting the shoe retraction.
The knuckle joint that the cable hooks to are a common seize point.

I'm presuming discs all on all four corners, with handbrake operating on inner disc,,,,,,yes, some call it it a drum, but it's a disc drum combo.

Yea its obviously sticking on, I was thinking oil coming out of the seal? but for that to happen it must have been leaking a long time to get sticky like that and bind it? cant sort it right now have gallstones, i will crawl under when better

I have all the gubbings was going to do it last year, but it is a slag of a job to do..... should have done it then, should have, could have, would have.

Chock a rear wheel, lift other one. Knock cable adjustment fully back. Tighten adjuster on drum to 18 lb ft ensure drum is locked. Back off one and a half turns. Ensure drum is free. Adjust cable until brake is locked on third click of handbrake lever. If that doesn't work you will have to investigate further as said previously. Tight cable, seized shoe compensator. Etc.

If the rear seal is leaking oil into the drum ,the shoes will stick with vacuum when parked over night in the on position ,and after a while the lining can get pulled of the metal backing and jam against the second shoe locking even when driving. Not trying to scare you or anything:D:rolleyes:

The man told you he has gallstones, you want him to shite them out?
