Stub Axle play.

Hi

Just removed the front offside hub to replace the wheel bearings and have noticed that the stub Axle has alot of play.

Is this normal with the hub removed ?
Is it because the brake hose bracket bolts on top of the swivel housing have been removed ?
Could it be that something else is knackered which could have been my problem ( I noticed that there is another bearing at the end of the stub axle) ?

possibly that if they hold the top swivel bearing in place
