I have an x-reg freelander, 2.5 V6 auto.

The fan for the heating system inside the car is really skitzophrenic! Sometimes it comes on no bother when 1-4 is selected, othertimes it doesnt come on at all. Sometimes you can be driving with the fan on and it just cuts out....sometimes for a second before coming back on, sometimes for the rest of the journey!

When it is -4 outside, it is proving to be a real pain in the backside as the glass ices over inside and we cannot see out!

I have looked through my Haynes book but cannot find the answer.

Any help appreciated, but i am a newbe so be kind ;)

you will find a kit on ebay for fixing the problem ,which happens to be a resistor, hope this helps

Thanks for the replies. Any chance you could link me to this item as i have no idea what i am looking for haha.

What is wrong with the fan? What will changing the resistor do?

Thanks

The fan's resistor does fail. It's failure is often caused by the pollen filter being blocked which reduces the air flow that cools the resistor. The highest speed (4) should still work if the resistor has failed. There might be a dodgy connection as they easily knocked with an unused clutch foot!!

When i had the v6 auto mine did the same, i came across a kwick fix by accident.
Before you spend anything try what the last poster said, tap wiggle ye clutch foot at back of centre console. Dodgy connection.

well the ambient temperature was what i thought could be the issue (i wondered if something froze over) but it can come on while driving, then turn off, then back on, so i don't think its that.
When the fan doesn't work, it doesn't work on any setting. Does that mean it it NOT the resistor?
I will try kicking a few things with my foot....

It's likely the connection to the resistor which is where you left foot would rest.
