I am in the process of removing my heads, and when I removed my air box I found this switch/gauge/sensor underneath it - still plugged in - but the sensor end wasnt actually attached to anything.

Could someone please tell me what it is, and also where it belongs?

Many thanks

Hi, many thanks for that wil2813. I do have a standard air box, but because I run LPG I am planning on putting a cone on. Should I leave the sensor connected to the plug and just leave it where the airbox would have been?

its best to leave everything plugged in and connected if its on lpg singlepoint its probable it has or will backfire at some stage through airbox usually blowing it to bits.if its dangaling around unclip the top off the airbox the induction side(leading upto the airflow meter and plenum) is say 11 oclock the hole for the sensor is 9 0clock.unscrew the square brass nut off sensor, push sensor through hole there there is a pre fabricated slot on the underside of airbox to hold the nut and to stop it from turning, nib the sensor up with a spanner snugly

get a stainless steel cone filter, about 20 quid on the bay.

the sensor measures the air temp coming into the air intake

Already on the list Gav (after reading some of your prevous threads). Just got to find a new air intake pipe as this was held together will cable ties and gaffer! I'm guessing the LPG has blow this all to pieces at some point.

ive had backfires and its never taken the pipe out. make sure the air intake is well sealed, i used liquid metal on the metal to metal joints to be 100% sure!!

I did notice that the intake manifold(?) the very top of the engine where the 4.0 is (please excuse my lack of knowing the right part names!) has a small hole in it at the top just below the 4.0, theres a thinner piece of metal thats blown through - would this need replacing? I can upload a photo of its easier than my pathetic descriptions!?!

any holes that are not supposed to be there need plugging!!! or the part replacing.

on mine i have re directed the breather pipes from the plenum (the bit with the 4.0 on) i have a bung in the holes, anything that fits will do make sure its sealed but will pop off if theres a backfire.

and air leak will weaken the mix and cause more backfires resulting in more damage

What did you use for a bung? Would liquid metal do? Or would it be better with something already solid? Many thanks for all your help so far Gav!:)
