Hi all. I was just wondering how the ATF Fluid in my power steering resevoir has become creamy, or should I say where has the water entered the system.

I went greenlaning yesterday and went through a couple of fords on route, not extremly deep, less than door sill height, although the bow wave was upto the bonnet in places.

The ATF fluid is about a month old so im a bit gutted that i've got to change it, I just dont understand where the water is getting into the system.

Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

Components become hot whilst driving and create pressure inside the components, when you plunge into cold water the components cool rapidly causing a negative pressure which sucks the water in past the seals. Same for axles, gearbox, etc.

That explains that then. I thought it was being sucked in through the resovoir air hole in the cap. Is it much to drain down and replace?
