Hi my fellow freelander lovers, I have a problem with my 2004, 1.8 petrol facelift freelander. It has started making a wierd noise, It sounds like some spinning/howling sound. It starts when you start moving, it's worst at 20-40km/h and starts stopping at 65-95km/h or I just don't hear it so good because all the other noises. And it also in its worst when you decelerate to 40-20km/h. I took my car to repair shop, but they didn't find anything, cause we don't have many land rovers here in finland.

Hi, is there any specific oil you should use for the rear diff and in the IRD? I live in Finland, so temperatures change from +30 Celsius to - 30 Celsius.

IRD uses 75w90 full synthetic oil. The rear diff uses standard 80w90 oil.

Okey. But I was wondering how picky it is, cause I got oils changed couple of weeks ago, and they put syntax ls 75w-140 oil in the rear diff, I was just wondering if the noise is because of that? I phoned them and they will look up why they used that oil

A thicker oil will normally reduce noise, not increase it.
