strange problem can any 1 help me??

[FONT=&quot]When driving the van is fine, when slowing down if left in gear, then it starts running lumpy and starts chuckin loads of smoke out exhaust If you turn the ignition off & back on again it will clear the fault. If you slow down and take it out of gear then the car runs normally. [/FONT][FONT=&quot] Sometimes the car takes a little while to start other times it starts fine has any 1 had this before i only bought car a few weeks ago its a 1999 2l td has any 1 had this prob b4 or hurd of it? any help would be great cheers

What fuel are you using? Normal diesel or bio / rapeseed mix etc?
Make sure it has 'normal' diesel in, its a bit cold for the other mixes at the moment,
Also check the air filter for condition and surrounding hoses, make sure that the hoses at the front of the engine air intake and intercooler (the big ones you see in front of you when you open the bonnet) are all tights and the jubilee clips are tight, leaks here can cause this, remember, do 1 thing at a time and try it, it takes longer but if you do three things at once you don't know which one cured it !!
