Strange noise

I was out with the dogs yesterday. While exiting the car park we went over a big dip across the road as we turned right. For a couple of seconds there was a cogs turning/grinding noise?

Can anyone explain this?

Are you sure you were not just doing a dodgy gear change?

Not a dodgey gear change. It was in gear. The tyres are fine as far as im aware they're standard. It only happened when the car jerked from bouncing into the ditch on one tyre. If that makes sense.

sounded like cogs for a few seconds. I thought it might be some torshonal force causing a momentary problem.

did you have your foot on the brake at the time - could it've been the ABS pump, they can make a bit of a racket.

That'll be your Traction Control as one rear wheel hits air coming off the bump.

It briefly locks up that wheel.

Mine does it off a kerb - and the TC light flashes up briefly.

thanks everybody! It's sounds like that could be it. I was just paranoid since it sounded like cogs.
