Hi

First post on here and tbh im trying to get some advice from anyone who knows a bit about these beasts. We have a 2011 Disco 4 sdv6 xs and we have had it for about 2 years. Current mileage is approx 140k miles however it drives and behaves like a dream.

Recently it has started to make a a noise when turning left or right whilst moving - it sounds like ' wow wow wow wow wow wow'

It is definitely associated with the rotation of the front wheels and i think its more from the right / drivers side than the left / passengers side.

I put the spare on the front drivers side and then noise vanished! So i figured it was probably a dodgy tyre. I then got a new tyre fitted and the shop told me the wheel had a bad buckle so they balanced it as best as they could. As soon as i left and drove home the sound was back. I then switched the right side rear to the front and now its even louder (only when turning while moving). Its odd that it went away with the spare on and the odd coincidence that the tyre shop said the regular wheel had a bad buckle but yet when i put the rear on the front it was even worse!

My gut feeling is that its a bearing or perhaps the diff - any info or advice would be very much appreciated. Im going to try the spare on it again just to be sure that the sound is definitely not there - could both the front and rear wheels be buckled? Seems unlikely lol. Failing that i will have to book it in with our mechanic and see what he thinks....

Many Thanks

Andrew

Not definite clue without looking at the vehicle.

However have you checked the wheel yourself, to see how buckled it is? If the wheel is buckled, then it needs replacing, as a bent alloy can fail completely, which would be very dangerous.

Maybe some previous owner ran through a huge pothole, bending 2 wheels on the same side. You need to test the wheels, to see if they are bent, and replace those that are ASAP.

Those 20" wheels are very susceptible to damage, especially so if they are cheap Chinese clones, which have no business being on a D4 at all, as they can't take the vehicle weight.
