Hi all I've owned my 2007 freelander a year now and done the usual pads and service and a rear wheel bearing. Not long ago my car developed a noise that sounds like a wheel bearing but is only there when on the power mostly at constant speed from about 20m . A mechanic friend had a drive and agreed with me that it's not a wheel bearing there is no play in the bearing and it's odd that it goes away off power. I can here and feel the huming/knocking from the front drivers footwell and all signs pointed to the front diff.
I spent the last 2 days and well over 500 notes fitting a recon transfer box but to my horror the noise is still there. It gets faster with road speed not engine speed and I'm stumped and broke. My next move was to replace the osf bearing and driveshaft as I noticed the bearing on the driveshaft was dry when fitting the diff but why would the noise go away when off power? Hoping someone out there has had a similar thing and can help me keep what hair I have left
Cheers Darren
