Hi, got a strange problem occurring at the moment with my landy.
it wont start, nothing unusual there then ha!
but as soon as i get the spare battery out the shed and link them both together starts perfectly. which would lead me to think my battery is rubbish and needs replacing but... i put the multi metre on it and at rest voltage reads 12.8V and when idling it reads 14.3V which is pretty much exactly what it should be according to a google search??

any thoughts?

whats the v of the separate batteries? If you stick a multi on the duff battery and then crank, what does it drop to? Sounds a bit like it's lost it's guts.

Linking them both together in parallel is increasing the current.

thanks wolf but no metallic clicking, it's not my startor motor again.
i think it is just the battery. since i've up loaded this i've gone back and checked and the resting volts are dropping like flys just wont hold a charge.
thanks guys

aye, sounds knackered.
If it wasn't for the other battery helping it start and the resting volts dropping then I'd have said if it's not attempting to crank at all (no clicks or whatever) then it might be a short.

I had similar when I had a split charge system on it. The main starter battery was duff and without the other battery to help it wouldn't start at all

Battery has lost cells, to test correctly in needs a load test which bassicaly you have done but ats etc put a probe straight across the terminals to carry out this tesr
