Strange aircon issue

Hi everyone!
"interesting" problem with the a/c and would value your thoughts...

98 4.6 p38

a/c on, selected to lo on both sides, result: ambient air blown through vents.
Odd thing- OAT gauge shows 0'c.

After around 10 minutes, OAT indication slowly rises to reflect an accurate temp, a/c unit then starts to blow out icy cold air.

Is this coincidence, or a function of the temp gauge? Can I fix this so I get cold air straight away?

Maybe a new OAT is required or the wiring to it is faulty.

I am with Wammers on this one.If the oat temp is incorrect then the Hevac will act accordingly

Somewhere in Rave it says the OAT sensor will signal accurately only if the car is moving above 15mph. I've seen in mine that I drive somewhere and the reading is say 25C and then I park, when I come back half an hour later the instant reading could be 38C because of heat from the engine bay. Once I'm moving it goes down again. My OAT is just below the windscreen in one of the HEVAC air intakes. In later model I think they moved it to somewhere behind the front bumper.

Thanks for your thoughts - I have read elsewhere on this forum that the OAT shouldn't have any bearing on the actions of the rest of the hevac system, however, that has never stopped random acts of engineering in the past!!

it does affect hevac look on rangerovers.net
