my def 90 300 tdi's clutch pedal has become so stiff that you cannot disengage the clutch. it happened very suddenly in only 2 presses, the first press made the clutch bite much higher up the pedal travel (i instantly assumed low clutch oil) the second press resulted in the clutch pedal not wanting to budge an inch even with 2 feet pressing firmly on it.

has anyone experienced this before as i am now clueless having topped the oil up and cannot see any obvious jams.

When you say that the bite is higher up (on that first push) can we be clear that the clutch take-up or off happened far sooner than you would expect, or far later?

If later, then possibly a big fluid leak, but more likely that the pivot has pushed through the lever inside the bellhousing.

If early, and as I read it, you are unable to get the pedal to go down, you must have something come loose in the pedal box, or , as crowblind suggests, a crushed pipe.

If the slave failed it would probably not cause the pedal to stop moving.

If you have ruled out the pedal itself and hydraulics (blockage or pipe pinched), then I suspect the diaphragm spring on the clutch cover has failed.

t'wouldn't - the slave pushrod extends to its limit, and is not returned as it uses the clutch springs to push it back. Then, when you lift off the pedal, the pedal return spring pulls it back through the clutch fluid. You then reapply the pedal, and because the slave pushrod cannot move anywhere, the fluid won't move and so the pedal dnt move.

Eh... I will agree with that. I was thinking about mine where the whole lot just blows out the end of the cylinder, when the Disco fork broke through the pivot point, each time the pedal was pushed it pushed the piston further along the cylinder, then there was a release (that was when all the fluid ****ed out the inspection hole).

Ahh i see. Thinking about it, i think its possible for either of the above situations to happen. Hmm...

300tdi Alex... Drive without using the clutch! Stall it in 1st gear when you come to stop, or switch off the engine, pull away on the starter, and do clutchless changes! :D

Long way to drive with no clutch though...
