Stolen, two defenders staffordshire

During the night between tueday and wednesday the 14th of april both of my farm's landrover defenders were taken from my yard in denstone staffs.

A light blue county defender 90 R46UWL and a dark blue TD5 90 v668JAW

I've been reading this forum for the first time having googled 'stolen landrovers' and it's interesting to see that there is a lot of activety in the notts derby areas, just up the A50 from me, looks like they may have widened their area of operation a bit.

Sorry to hear some thievin oiks have pinched your vehicles.
Will keep an eye out but don't expect they'll be seen again, but fingers crossed eh? :(

Thanks, it does seem unlikely that they'll turn up, but you never know.

we need the vehicles to run the business, losing both is a major headache, but beyond that we've owned them for ten years now, and they've been looked after with a view to keeping them a bit longer yet, the TD5 was my late father's vehicle and had just 30K on the clock. the other one had £2000 worth of tools, chainsaws etc, in the back which aren't covered by the insurance.

Both had a certain sentimental value as we've had them so long, to think that some thieving pikeys are probably gas axing them up as we speak is upsetting, but aside from this, they're ten year old vehicles, and the insurance will want to pay out according to their age, but where will we find vehicles of that age which have been looked after to the same standards?
 
My 1993 landy 90 was stolen back in january, they found it 3 days later completely stripped. insurance was good and paid out £3500 for it. you should get way above that for yours as they are both a lot younger than mine was. id expect £5000 for the R Reg and £7-8000 for the td5. landy 90s are the slowest depriciating 4x4. which is good really as there not exactly cheap to buy

My friend in the trade who knew the vehicles reckoned about the same, he said £12K minimum for the pair

I spotted this landrover on ebay today which is pretty much identical to the 300 i've lost in spec and condition, and is the same age and mileage.


Land Rover Defender 90 300 Tdi County 1998 R One owner on eBay (end time 27-Apr-10 19:07:45 BST)

I rang that chap up. nice guy, he has a reserve of £5500 on that one, so i'll point the insurance valuer in his direction. the TD5 was immaculate with just 33k on the clock, difficult to find a replacement for that.
 
hi basil , sorry to hear your loss, am not far from you really, i kno of one thats gone from stone recently, ther getting closer mate, keep yer eyes peeled, specialy with the tools etc,. like me your tools are your living, same as the landrovers are, im thinking of a rising bollard at the bottom of the drive,
il keep a look out round and about , ;) hope for the best ,
 
Sorry to hear that.
I always assume that the farmer areas would be safer being so far from the urban zones.

It seems that the thieves are getting more bold and adventurous! Scum that they are!

its cause ther places are so quiet mate, people dont bother lookin if ther being nicked as they are working all hours to make a crust with the way the gov have ****ed up farming , a landrover started and driven off at 3 am is kinda the norm , and early morning / late night, its gerrin worse for stolen motors :mad:

Plant and landrovers going missing in rural areas is nothing new i'm afraid, we bought the TD5 after our 200TDi was stolen from uttoxeter cattle market, that was 10 years ago.

my old ifor trailer went missing from bramshall ind estate three year ago, ****ers, id break every bone i caught them , but like everything it goes missing fer ever, wonder where all the stuff goes . ??

that's a very good question.

the land rovers must either be exported, or be cut up for spares, but someone must be towing your ifor trailer round somewhere, either knowing it's nicked or oblivious, having bought it in good faith.

I'm told that a lot of the plant type stuff, quads, ifor trailers, mini diggers etc. ends up in the Republic of Ireland. (another reason why Irish travellers are getting the blame for it)

Land rovers are ideally suited to being stolen to break, virtually every part is saleable, and they can be stripped down like a giant meccano set in a matter of hours by an experienced crew. they must either have a buyer for the parts, and once they're bolted on to someone elses truck, they'll never be identified, or they could pass them via several intermediates to a legitimate spares dealer. Then in the highly unlikely event that they get spotted by the original owner: 'well, i bought them in good faith officer'.

Failing that they're in a container on the docks and packed off to Africa or Eastern Europe, where no one will care where they came from.

Have noted the reg numbers, im just down the A50 in stoke, will keep my eyes peeled...

Rotten barstewards want there fingers ripping off...

am pretty sure i wont see the trailer round ere thats for sure :mad:

it winds me up they need ther hands breaking to teach them , not 100 hrs comunity service

that's the seller in the ebay link i posted. he seemed nice enough on the phone, but searching this forum he gets some mixed reviews. i shan't be rushing into buying any replacements yet, especially as i'm still haggling over the price of the old ones with the insurance. and you never know, they might actually turn up, though i'm not holding my breath, crime won't crack itself, and all that.
