Stolen - Spare Wheel from rear of LR90xs

Hello all - just to let you know, for those in Ripponden, Sowerby Bridge and around - had the spare wheel and tyre taken from the back of my Defender last night (Sunday 12th December, around 21.30). Has a brand new General Grabber 235/85 R16 tyre (not very expensive) on a 55 LRXS alloy wheel (never used). Strange thing - they left all the nuts and caps in the flower pot next to the LR, one of which was a locking wheel nut (undamaged). Police interested and wanted to come around to take a look and record details - at their insistence. Anyhow, there you go, just for info. Ps. If anyone has any suggestions as to how to secure the new one - I'm all ears! (Dont suppose there's anything like a disc lock for spare wheels?)

I use a bike lock. Prob not that secure but better than newt.

i use bike lock and do my wheel nuts up so feckin tight it would take some daft sod hours to do with out and impact driver.i also washer the nuts to spread the load a bit.
i had the wheel on the bonnet padlocked on but reckon inside slows em down the best.

You can Pick them up at halfrauds as well, when i lost the key for the locking nuts on mine, they were £12 for 2. that was Freelander Locking wheel nuts..

Had my Boost alloy and Mud Terrain spare nicked outta the back of my 2002 DCPU; coppers said they'd had reports of other Landy spare wheels being nicked on the same night - obviously the Caravan-Using-Nomadic-Travellers (or C*NTs for short) had nicked themselves a full set of rims.

... replaced it with an old Range Rover Classic Alloy and barely legal tyre...don't think they'll be bothering to nick that one...

Fitted a U-shaped shackle through two holes drilled in the rear door. Mounted with thick washers on inside. Thick chain and padlock through this and the wheel.

Another way ( a little bit more involved) is to buy a padlock with a removable shackle. Drill two holes in the door, the same distance apart as the shackle. Thread the chain through the wheel onto the padlock shackle. This then goes through the rear door and locks on the inside ( cutout in door card required)
This secures the wheel to the rear door and also means that said bastard doesnt have easy access to the padlock to break it or pick it. The lock is unlocked from inside. Its a bit fiddly, but neater and there's less chance of the lock bouncing round and damaging paintwork or wheel finish.

Could you drill one of the bolts and stick a padlock through it.
EBay sell a spare wheel lock for about 8 quid too. Made by master lock if I remember right.

Morning - thanks for all the replies, very helpful. Spoke to local LR dealer and they've sorted me out with a second hand spare wheel (steel rather than alloy) for £20, which they say will deter most. New tyre on its way too. Will make sure the nuts are extra "feckin tight" and will be checking out the masterlock... Thanks again.

would you like ally dust put on your nuts then !!

Have you noticed how many 'as new' single wheel/tyres there are on ebay??

Think from looking it just locks around the nut and has a key.
