Hi all,

Just a quick note to 'advertise' (if that is the right word?!) the fact my much-loved 1995 Defender 90 HardTop was stolen from my front drive early this morning, we think sometime between 4 & 7 am.

We live in South Sheffield so if anyone sees or is offered a vehicle like this in the area please do get in touch.

A picture is attached although this is from when I bought it last year so isn't so shiny now!

It had a hi-lift jack and some tools in the back also.

Thanks all, and here's hoping for a swift return.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

Please could you tick the appropriate boxes in the 'security devices' poll at the top of the stolen landy section.

Hopefully your misfortune can help others to better protect their landys.

Hi

I'm in S17. The police told me another Defender was attempted last night about 500yds away but they were disturbed and 4 have been taken in this area over the past few weeks.

Apparently the thieves are targeting Defenders explicitly in Sheffield at the moment so if you have one, please take extra steps with it's security! 180+ have been taken in the past 2 years in Sheffield so that's one every 4 days.

They think they're being broken up and sold as spares so I'm not hopeful of getting it back.

The good news (ish) is that the police have set up a dedicated team specifically to try and get the people taking the Defenders so let's keep our fingers crossed they're successful and nail the b*stards.

Cheers,

Steve

The OP did say it was an old picture,so not a lot to go on ref present/prethieft condition.
The cleanist part of the ebay one is the No plates,:(

Cheers for the heads-up. I've had a very close look and think it's a different one. There were a few dents in different places ;-)

The police basically said "it's in bits, forget it" as they're going at about 3-4 a week from Sheffield at the moment. Professional gangs stripping them and shipping the parts abroad most likely.

Although I too have been watching eBay quite closely, this one passed me by so thanks again.

It sounds like things are awful over where you are. And Defenders tend to be an easy target thanks to the relatively low security in them. I wish you all the best in finding your Land Rover.

Down here in New Zealand there is no problem like what you have. Partially because there are very few Defenders and partially because people don't know anything about their worth or the price they can get for parts. It seems like the thefts in your area may be organised rather than random. Perhaps there is indeed a gang at work?
