Lots of niggles all of a sudden!

She wouldn't start or even turn over earlier.

I got under and tapped the Starter with a hammer. Then started on the button.

Is there anything I can do, or just replace?

Battery voltage static and running is fine.

try rubbing the contact on the starter wire mine looked minty after offroading and needs a wipe when it' damp to get the starter motor to spin. Not joking.
I need to clean the connections but I'm so busy with work I've not got round to it yet

You do not say if you could hear the solenoid click when you tried to start it?

IF you could hear the solenoid click then the contacts are normally fubarred.
If you did not hear the solenoid click the the spade connector is as said by Gazman the first port of call.

Cheers

Hi Neilly,

No clicking at all. The relay was operating int the fuse box, but mainly felt it rather than heard.

As above or by tapping it you have moved the carbon brushes in the starter motor and they now make contact with the stator. If the starter motor is old then replacement fixes most of the problems you could have. You can get the brushes separately if you fancy taking it apart to replace just them.....
