Stoopid question time:

Just how much effort should it take to shift my Red stick from high (forward) to low (back)? Right now it ain't shifting anywhere, presumably as the result of numerous previous owners never using the low box.

The yellow pops up & down ok, it's only the red that appears to be seized solid.

What's the best way to ease the red stick back into life: heat/lubrication/effort (good) or remove gearbox (bad)???

Be gentle with me, it's been a long day.............................

You say that ya yella knob is going up and down so it sounds like thats not engaging either. Push yella knob down makes 4x4 to deselect 4x4 pull red knob all the way back (Yella know pops up at this point) into 4x4 low range then push red knob all the way forward 2x4 high range. I wouldn't try pushing 4x4 knob down hard to see if it engages until you free off your transfer lever otherwise you will be stuck in 4x4 and could damage ya box if you use it like that for long periods of time. I aggree that WD and a bit or forward backward wriggling is required.. and when youve finished you can look at sorting your Landy out

Yeah, ain't that the case. Have now removed the "wicked" stereo as it was wired straight in & flattened the battery, and the six "wicked" speakers that had been oh-so expertly installed. Black & yellow insulation tape everywhere.....

The wiring and lamps for all SIX 100W spotlights have also gone, including all FIVE relays and associated fuses/switches. How the hell did it ever run with all that lot on without melting something. Oh, look behind the dashboard: it DID melt something. Brilliant.

Naturally the stickers have been removed. "88 INCHES OF PURE PLEASURE", nice. "OFF-ROADERS LIKE IT WET", brilliant. Jeez.

The treacle that was the axle oil has been replaced, the sludge that was the engine oil is replaced, new filters all round, etc etc etc. Lots & lots of fettling to bring it back to normal.

AND I'VE LOVED EVERY MINUTE. This could be the begining of a beautiful friendship.................. :)
