My heater control knobs on my '55 plate have gone all sticky to touch. It also appears that the rubbery coating is coming off in places. Anyone know the best way of cleaning these up? Or if there are any good replacements? LR ones cost anyway between £12-15 which is v. expensive for what they are.

P.s: I appreciate that my thread heading will open me up to all sorts of lewd comments. I welcome them all with open arms!:D

mine have been sticky for some time now, i took them off and give them a good scrub and they're still sticky.

i now don't touch them at all.

now for the editing, carry on :(

try rinsing the rubber coating off with brake cleaner, most things it takes the coating off without damaging plastic- I have a pure oasis radio and the knobs did the same

Bumped this up as I noticed that I have the same problem.
Try Johnsons baby wipes and a bit of elbow grease. Took a couple of go's and the corners are a bugg*r to get into, but it works a treat.

Mine were like that until recently. I just sanded the coating off on all three, going down the grades to about 800 grit, spray primed them and then topcoated in gloss black. Once dry, I hand painted the little white indicator on with a very fine brush. As far as I could tell they never let any of the backlighting through anyway. Sounds ****, but actually looks good with the black surround and console in mine. No more sticky knobs for me...:D

Try putting the baby wipe around a old tooth brush and scrubbing the corners,i use one to clean all the air vents when valeting works a treat.

hi all, don"t know if this will help or not, had the same problem on my mgf when i 1st got it, (plus the actual heat control broken), went to a company called mike satur, he"s an mg specialist & bought polished ally ones, looked great & did"nt break again, the lr ones look exactly the same as my mg, so going to buy another set for mine, think they were £38.00, also do brushed finish, could solve this problem!!???!!!

A good wash with washing-up liquid, then a smear of Olive Oil over each one. Leave over night in a warm room then refit. They come up a treat.

I cleaned mine with fairy liquid a while ago and the sticky came oft. Rest of the rubber is ok.
