I am looking to buy an updated stereo for my 2002 model freelander i have the ES model that has the cd changer and steering wheel controls and would like a modern stereo that will fit in but will not make me lose the controls and changer can any one help?

Freelander's came with Alpine or Philips CD changers - to keep the changer you will have to use with a Philips or Alpine head unit.

Leads may be a problem here as the Philips was supplied with 2 types. A 10 Pin rectangular plug used on the beige R770 radios and a blue 1cm x 1cm plug which is universal and will work with becker, alpine, philips and VDO Head units.

Why change the head unit?? Whats wrong with it??

I do have a satnav system from a 2003 model if thats any use to you. See the link in my sig.

Regards,

Steve

Mine is the black stereo. i just fancy a change of head unit and fancy something a little flashier than the dull boring landrover one!!!
Will this also allow me to keep the steering wheel controls?
And how much would you be looking for the sat nav?

It has the box that allows the steering wheel controls to operate :)

I dont have them on my vehicle, but I would be happy for you to try the unit in your vehicle. (its only a 10 min job to plug in)

If you have an alpine CD Changer (with blue plug at rear) this would interface too.

Looking for £250 ONO as advertised or £200 without CD changer.

Steve

Are you regarding the controls to your sat nav?
As i would like to know if it will work with any apline stereo?

I was referring to the Satnav head unit, It has a new loom which replaces your current audio one. There is a connection and a small box which is mounted under the centre console. This enables the steering wheel controls to work.

All alpine models are different and if you choose a non Land Rover sourced head unit you may either have to buy additional leads to use the controls or they will not work at all.
