I have an alpine AMR6284 in my 99 4.6 HSE which the screen doesnt work on.

This hasn't been a problem until the old girl got a flat battery a few months ago and it needed the code inputting again to make the stereo work. Long story short the code in the book was wrong (wrong book for car etc) so I got in touch with the previous owner who told me the code was 0000 as he had had it reset when the same had happened to him. Brilliant, so I input this code and all was well for 6 months or so.

Anyway, the other day we had a flat battery again but as I knew the code, no problem, however the radio will now not accept the code "0000" which is the code input sequence of pressing "1" 5 times (1 to enter code, default number is 0 and press 1 to go to next number) As the screen lights up but there is no display I cant see what the radio is asking for... so up a certain creek without a method of propulsion!

I have seen there are replacement standard radios on ebay for not daft money, am I better just going for that? There are some cheaper without a code but I have seen places that say they can get the code for the radio or am I best just buying a more expensive one with the code from a breaker?

Or does anyone have any other better ideas that will cost me less money? :)

Thanks for the reply mate, in the end I have bought a good second hand unit. Fitted it and no problems.

To be honest the display was shot and it turns out the original was missing its cage which is why it didnt sit in the slot properly. So a new one with a working screen is worth the £100 or so I think.

Listening to just the V8 was getting expensive!

Ah, should have been specific! It isn't an Alpine it is Panasonic, I think. Forget now but it works!

MrGorsky sent his to be refurbed and they did everything. Looked like a new stereo when it came back. Think he only paid about £100 but may be wrong.

Ah well thats the problem I couldnt get anything but a working standard radio as its the harmon kardon stereo system in mine. No choice but the OEM Alpine but it works a treat and the simple pleasure of being able to see the track and CD number is certainly welcome!

His might be the Harmon Kardon in his too. It is an HSE. I'm terrible with names!

Yeah im sure it will be its a bit of a nightmare to be honest if it goes wrong as you cant just get a normal head unit I found after my research as the amps in the back don't work unless you can turn them up to max and then get an adapter lead etc. Typical landrover making life difficult but either way all working now and thank god as my friends new vogue he got on Wednesday is already dead my old girl is on front line service for doing a 600 mile round trip to a wedding.
