Hi folks, 1995 V8 auto, 185k
Please help, I have two questions.
1. Front passenger tyre WELL worn on inside edge and drivers side worn a wee bit on inside edge but nowhere near the other one. Back tyres have about 4mm left.

2. I have always changed all four tyres at once cos of transfer box and viscous couplings and rolling radius etc.
Is this is as vital as I think? Seems a shame to waste two rear tyres.

I just always change the 2, and but the back ones on the front, and the new on the back

I have completely different tyres on back compared to front. Completely different grip. Been like that for years no problems.
They are 32" so too big for standard much more strain on Tbox etc. if they do catch plastic arch liner always seems to be passenger front? Don't know if it's relevant.

Your arch liner plugs all there?

Thanks for replies.
I have standard tyres and wheels
I think all the liner plugs are there and no wear on the liner

So it's the actual metal arch catching?

My point was huge tyres that cause more stress to the OE shafts/viscous/bearings etc with different treads front/back have caused no issues over 5yrs. You will be fine

Oh right got you thank you. I am surprised that you dont get wind up. They are pretty aggressive looking tyres
No wear on arch at all its the inside of the tread that is badly worn.

If both were wearing evenly then tracking. But if one is worn more than the other camber angle (Ball joints) Have you done any mods to suspension?

You would think so but the camber on the road seems to affect the wear side to side, at least that was the case on my Transit.

This is true, but camber on roads does not seem to be as pronounced as it used to be. Track being out produces a easily seen feathering pattern.

Plenty of camber here and the tyres on the Transit are as hard a hell, but I agree that feathering is obvious on normal car tyres. It was a track rod end gone on the Transit, strangely it made little difference to the steering feel didn't do the MPG much good though. I found it when I did my pre MOT check.

Any wear in a steering joint will be split evenly side to side as the wheels rotate. So the drag and wear will be shared evenly across the axle.

With road camber, I have to constantly apply input to the steering to counteract the pull it causes.

At one time it was same over here especially on narrow roads but on main roads it was not as pronounced. At one time diagonally changing wheels around was standard on a service to even out wear. I don't think it is any longer. And with directional tyres it is not possible unless the tyres are removed from the rims and turned round.

They used to just pour new Tarmac on top then chamfer the edge off towards the drain/kerb leaves increasing camber. They can only get away with it so many times, nowadays there is enough depth to plane it off more level with a big tracked machine and relay flatter, particularly on main roads with bigger runs

Thanks for all your replies and advice.
I have not modded the suspension apart from new air bags (standard)
Definitely far more pronounced on one side.
Roads her are C**p
I will try and get a pic but thats complicated stuff
I am going to have to change to the spare when I get home and will have a feel of ball joints etc.
Is that where you rock wheel top to bottom?

You may need a crow bar to see movement in the swivels even with a wheel off the ground.
