right guys, had all 4 wheels balanced but get a very violent shake between 50 and 60 mph. ive had a look and can see nothing wrong any ideas

if it was ok before you had them balanced could be you have lost a weight, especially if they are the stick on type. lost nearly all mine in a matter of weeks.

no, i had them balanced because of the wobble, ive also put a new damper on but still it wobbles and i mean wobble

I had gut wrenching wobble at 55mph on my P38 , main cause was a broken up front wheel bearing but continued to a lesser extent after this was replaced. The wheels were perfectly balanced. After getting an independent garage (Island Land Rovers) to have a look, it turned out to be that L322 wheels fitted but they hadn't fitted the spiggot rings!

Hope that helps.

Had exactly same problem at 45mph - 55mph had all wheels balanced made no difference, was so bad had to slow to abt 20mph to stop it - had the ball joints replaced even though it had recent MOT pass, it sorted the problem.

Also make sure you have the correct size wheel nuts. Fitting L322 wheels without spigots is like walking around in the boxes your new shoes came in your feet fit ibside but it ain`t a good fit. Same with the nuts, they need to fit correctly, not just fit on.

Can anyone tell me which wheel nuts are required? I have L322 wheels on mine, with spigot rings and the correct nuts, but I'd like a new non rusty set and a set of lock nuts but dunno which ones. Which year L322 nuts fit onto the P38? There seem to be a few different ones.

As I understand it the P38 & L322 have the same wheel studs fitted (same thread), but the L322 wheels have bigger diameter holes for the nuts to fit into, so L322 nuts must be used (as well as spigot rings) with L322 wheels.. Using P38 nuts will be unsafe. L322 nuts will not fit the holes in P38 wheels. Dunno about any variation in nut sizes for different years?
