as my user name might suggest i'm a big bloke and have come upon a problem,i'm about 3/4 of the way through refurbishing my series 3 109 and have found that when sitting i can't depress the brake pedal because my bloody great legs are jammed under the steering wheel!,anyone know of a smaller diameter wheel that'll fit?.its either that or i sit on a cushion straight on top of the seat box!

you do get smaller steering wheels to fit, one of me S3's has one, personally i dont like it as it is very small and feels like it was one of those computer steering wheels for driving games!

Be very wary if ye have to buy the boss for this wheel!!!
Ah was just over at a mate of mines tonight and he's had nothin' but trouble with his. He's had to keep sendin' his boss back because of the really crap welding on it, and it's not a pretty site!
I'm no welder, but ah reckon ah could do a far better job, luckily he is and is gonna make a new one himself.
hopefully ah can get back over on sunday and take some pics of it, if he hasn't made a start on it already, just to show you how scary this thing is!!! There's no way ah'd trust it:eek:

EEEP, DUNT THINK MINE'S THAT BAD, WILL HAVE A LOOK!

HAD THE STEERING WHEEL COME OFF IN ME OTHER SERIES 3!! WERENT MOVING LIKE WAS ACTUALLY TAKING IT OF TO GET INTO THE DASH BUT WENT I PULLED AT IT TO SEE HOW TIGHT IT WAS SECURED IT FOOOKIN PULLED RIGHT OFF! IT WERRE RIGHT SCARY!

had mine come off during a comp safari once lol on a bend.that was a little disconcerting to say the least.by the smell i think my navigator crapped himself lol.

I think at the time they were a standard British Leyland size. I have a maestro wheel on mine, Metro ones seem popular. To do the job properly (& safely) needs a bit of messing about with lock tabs etc.
A smaller wheel will make the steering heavier. How much will depend on how stiff yours is to start with, which is linked to your tyre choice. they all seem to vary, so try it and see how you get on,

be carefull which one you choose as some of those boy racey type ones already mentioned are not recognised by insurance companys and i have heard tale of someone having a claim refused just for changing the wheel over

Ah went to me mate's earlier on, thankfully he hasn't started to make his own boss yet, and ah managed to get some pics. Ah just wish ah'd got some pics of the other ones before he sent them back, but ah did manage tae get some of this one....
