finally starting to think about the reassembly stage of my truck cab series 3 and was looking at the condition of the steering wheel. There are some extremely large stress cracks emanating from the two 'twenty to 4' spokes and looking on line I can't find anything about them. what was the manufacturing process , material etc and is this common? Lastly is is ok to use?

It's a resin coating with a steel frame in it. The cracks will be from the wheel flexing as you turn it or grip it trying to make the brakes stop it. lol
You have 2 options: send it off for refurb but expect to find your wallet £300 lighter or do what I , and others have done, and do it yourself. Open the cracks up and fill the gap with one of those 2 part fillers. I cannot remember the name of the stuff I used but it was the stuff that comes as a sausage you chop a bit off then kneed it to mix the 2 parts together. Stuff it in the gap, leave to set, sand to shape and paint bask in a job well done for a fraction of the price of a refurb.

He only said.........

Why not bind the whole thing in a nice length of natural rope.
