hi, had a day off roading today with the north east 4x4 club, had a good day but i,m having a bit of bother holding on to my steering wheel. Its the standard series 3 wheel and its just to thin, anyone tell me what other landy wheel will fit and also look at home, dont want anything too modern or too small, bit of a tall order i no butits got to be worth a try.
cheers:)

you can buy grip tape for hockey sticks and criket bats, get some (about £5 a roll) wrap it wrond n see what you thinks ?

nice idea, the thing is i want a wheel with a thicker rim, with the skinny rim of the series wheel you grip it tightly and wrap your thumbs around it, catch a rut wrong, the wheel whips round and it could be a broken thumb. :(
cheers
Dave

um, just keep your thumbs on top of the rim and grip with your fingers?

How fat a wheel do you want if your thumb can't reach the spokes??

However if you must have a thicker wheel, i think my friend put an LDV 400 wheel on his when his series one began to crack up.

Try an older Mountney at a reasonable diameter (i.e. not the Mini ones) - the turn up all the time at autojumbles, and don`t look out of place in my opinion. They are smaller than standard but worked really well on my 109.
You could also try a steering wheel sleeve - usually leather, they fit round the wheel and lace up on the inside - very retro, my aunt had one on a Morris Traveller !

Try a breakers yard i used to fit old metro steering wheels to series landies the spline was the same and even the cowl could be made to fit on series 2's

I want to try a bit of trialling and think that a thicker rim would give me a bit more controll, gripping the wheel with only my fingers doesnt really work, tried it. I think i,ll try an old mounty, just have to keep an eye out for a decent sized one, still want to keep the oldy worldy look, anyone else triall their series ?, any hints on set up would be most welcome :)
cheers

another vote for the metro one, same splines and everything. Mines the 'safety' wheel with sort of squashy rubber on it, feels nice.

Bought a nice triumph steering wheel of ebay today, 14 1/2 inch, chrome spokes so shouldnt look to much out of place, the boss unbolts but does anyone no if i,m going to be the luckiest man in the world and it,ll fit straight on ?, here,s hoping !
cheers
