L322 Steering wheel vibration start and stop

Hi, was wondering if anyone would know what the cause might be, I recently bought a 2003 L322 TD6, and had noticed my steering wheel would vibrate, checked tyre pressure and front was 20psi or less, back was near 40psi, pumped the front near enough to 40 psi, steering vibration stopped, next day, when cruising at 60mph, my steering wheel started to vibrate, not a lot, but very noticeable, checked tyre pressure and not lost any air, get back in and no more vibration. Then the next day, no vibration, went shopping, then when driving back, vibration is back. What else should I look for?

Check the correct tyre pressures as per manual slow leaks are usually the tyre bead needing resealing on the ally wheel. You been driving anywhere dirty? Not being personal but when I drive down the farm I get the same from lumps of mud sending the wheels out of balance. A blast with the jet wash cured it.

I’ve not driven anywhere dirty, I’ve not owned it for that long, they are on 19” rims but not sure if they are aftermarket ones, but someone breaking one had the same style alloys had a set which I missed out on buying. I had checked tyre pressure and it had not leaked any air since I had to fill them up, only the front ones were well below 20psi before filling up of air. When traveling up or down motorway, I get a vibration now and then. When it’s there, when I come to a stand still or park up, get moving again, it has stopped. I’m not sure where the car has been before I had purchased it as it looks like the guy might be trading on the side of his full time job.

Do you get a vibration under gentle throttle up a slight incline?

don’t know if this is any help but what’s the tread depth like on all the tyres plse , do u get the vibration after you’ve done a few miles , what’s the tyre sizes as well plse, thks

Tyre depth all look ok, not measured them, but my guess around 6-8mm tread depth, nowhere near the low tread depth indicator

I'd start by getting the tyres the correct pressure, which is 34 PSI for the front, and 36 PSI for the rear.

If the vibration is still there, then have the wheels balanced, as it's possible a balance weight has come off, throwing a wheel out of balance.

Buckled wheels are also common on heavy vehicles with silly low profile tyres, especially on the badly maintained roads of the last few years, so ask the place that balances the wheels to check if any are buckled.
 
Buckled wheels I tell thee, I have one on mine and @RisforRacingnotReverse has two on his. All vibrate at around 60-70mph. It's a shame you can't get the car with all four off the ground in the low box and let it run in drive, then you can see the wheels that are buckled. ;) isn't it 29psi at the front and 36 at the rear @Nodge68 o_O
