Afternoon folks,

I took the plunge and got my hands on an O2 plate defender 90 with just shy of 100k on the clock.

She's really good fun but I've got a couple of issues you guys might be able to shed some light on....

1) At various times when cruising on A-roads between 45-55 mph I get a fair bit of vibration and juddering through the steering wheel. I also get some creaking when I try and turn the wheel at very slow speeds such as when reverse parking. A local enthusiast has mentioned 'ball joint on the steering drop arm?'

Is this a common fault? Is it easy enough to replace and whats the £££? Any other suggestions as to what the fault could be are very welcome.

2) She's a soft top but only has 1" hoops at the moment. I'm not planning to roll her but in the interests of the passengers who might have a trip in the jump seats in the back does anyone know a supplier who can supply/weld in a safety device type roll cage to replace the internal hood hoops?

Thanks lots for your help guys/girls :)

roll cage to replace the internal hood hoops?

I am not sure you will find a roll cage to 'replace' the hood hoops as they serve separate purposes.

Most internal cages also only protect the cab area and not the rear tub.

Something like this would probably be a bespoke design, but still needs the rear hoops to support the hood:

Something like the Whitebread one would probably be your best bet if safety is what concerns you:
