Hi Folks, Looking for some suggestions, I have a judder comming through the steering wheel, so i did all the usuall things , i have replace the front pads, front disks, new front tyres, had the wheels balanced and aligned, but still have this bloody judder when i brake above 30-40mph. and if going faster the judder gets worse, it only happens when i touch the brakes, its driving me mad. also the car just passed its mot on friday so the tester didnt pick it up.

many thanks
andy

thank you , I will try that in the morning , I will say it only happened after i changed from the 16in wheels i had on her, to the 18in ones i bought off flea bay

Not sure what model you have Andy - Did you check whether you needed spigot rings or spacers before fitting the bigger wheels?

Ok, I,m ready to bet now !!.

You can " balance out " a buckled wheel on the balancing machine, but it will still vibrate, especially under braking.

If you jack the fronts of the ground and spin them by hand, you may be able to see if its buckled.

At the end of the day, its an easy way of seeing if thats what your problem is.

Thank you for all the replies, i will be most ****ed off and well out of pocket if all it is , is a dodgy wheel . I will change the front to back first thing in the morning and let you know i get on.

Many thanks again

Hi guys, I had the wheels mover from front to back this morning and it made no difference to judder, the tyre fitted drove the car and swore that it was a warped front disk, but they are only six weeks old , can you swith the front disks to the rear or are they different sizes. or is its just another new set ? i am running out of ideas .
regards

It is possible to warp a new disc if it is used for hard braking to soon after being fitted.

No i have sold them . i wish i hadnt

I know it seems like I might be flogging a dead horse with the wheels, but your better to be sure before you spend any more dosh.

Have you got a spare ?.

If so, I,d put it on each corner and take it for a drive and see if its any different.

How confident are you that the judder started after the new rims ?.

Yes it is if you don't bed them in. I have a track car and some idiot managed to warp a pair of brand new Group 'N' perlitic iron discs in one 15 minute session at Oulton Park. He wasn't so smug when I gave him the bill.

I know I might be flogging a dead horse, but what make of tyres are you using? My son-in-law is in the motor trade & has had problems with weird makes - totally unbalanceable!
best of luck
