my steering wheel when its wet gets my hands black same as my mates s3, ive washed it twice now, my other mates say its 40 yrs of farmers jizz is there anything that can be done apart from changing the wheel?

Same problem on my 2a, it's mingling. I was thinking of a steering wheel cover, but 17" ones (insults expected) don't seem to common. I was also thinking maybe the biding you use on push-bike handlebars.
Some people have given then lots of coats of paint.

i've just heard it works on steering wheels, i've only done it on bumpers and it fetches them up like new.
try it on an inconspicous spot first ;)

There was a piece in LRO I think it was last month, shows someone selling specific leather covers for that steering wheel that you stitch into place so it looks legit, was quite pricey though, will see if I can find the name of the place who did it

I recall seeing a video on a few months ago utube where an american guy restored old 50's & 60's yanky tanks and had similar issues with the steering wheels. I think he heated them very gently with a blow torch and it restored the surface like new. I was very surprised when I saw it. I would recommend takiny the wheel off though or you might end up with a banana shaped dash board behind!

wipe it down with a rag soaked in thinners first and let it dry for a couple of hours to remove the greasy shyte
then heat it gently with a heat gun and all the grey will turn to black again then while its hot blow over it with satin black spraypaint ( dont use primer ) once thats dry a few good coats of clear laquer for good measure

trust me mine came out like brand new and no reason i shouldnt get another 40 years out of it now :D:D:D

Mine eventually came clean after several attacks with various household cleaners. It took a while, but I just kept at it every few weeks, trying different soapy solutions. It is fine now, a bit grey and mat finished, but clean hands. If ICBA I would give it a paint but that would make it look out of place with the rest of the original interior.:p

I used handlebar tape to do the top of my Disco wheel .. bit different to a series wheel thobut .. ;)
