There are two steering columns. Early ones have optional indicators, late ones have indicators that were fitted as standard.

There could be a third type, because Series 3 had a strange arrangement where the choke or fuel shut off interfaced with the steering lock, but I think those are the same box and column as late 2a.

If you have a Series 2a, it is probably going to be better to fit a 2a box and column.

I would think the last picture is the 2a part.

Do you not have a manual? There are pretty good exploded diagrams in the manual showing all the parts.

Reprint manuals from Brooklands Books are good.

From Lydsey Porter restoration manual...S1 set up shows spring... my S2 doesnt just has bearings top and bottom and pinch bolt to hold wheel on...looks like youv'e got wrong shaft with wrong wheel...does your wheel have pinch bolt hole?...

You're wheel is defiantly different to mine, I have 3 spare wheels, one off series 3 and two off series 2a and all are the same.
