Sooo... I had this problem before where the steering had like a small stiff point if you turned the wheel fast. So I suspected either the steering column joints or the box itself. Well today I changed the box, and replaced the one end of the column, and made sure the other end was good, but to be honest the one I took out didn't seem to have any problems. The box needed replacing anyway as it was leaking ever so slightly, so I put one out my previous disco in there.
So now the problem is even worse, the wheel seems to turn fine slowly, but if I jerk it, it goes stiff then loose, this happens in any position. Track rods are newish too. Im suspecting the pump has gone bad? it does seem to make some dodgy noises sometimes...

testing my patience..

What I did just notice was, the shaft coming through the firewall has a lot of play, I can wobble it up down side to side a god few mm. Guess that's not normal?

"stiff" when turning the wheel fast but much less when slowly is a classic sign of a pump not maintaining hydraulic pressure, especially if the problem goes away when turning the wheels on say, loose gravel. It's not necessarily accompanied by groans or leaking.

Steering column shaft being loose, no idea but I've never known it to be sloppy on any other cars I've had - probs not a good sign though?

Are you fat and have had any operations in that area?

Bellies can rub against wheel rim and not even know it.

And I am not actually THAT large, just belly grown, but appendix removal means that if not correctly positioned I can rub against the steering wheel and not notice

Yeah I assure you I am not fat and that's not the issue :p
So axtually, the problem has *kind of* solved itself, I guess I didn't get all the air out the system and it bled overnight. But still a little clunky so to say, I don't like the fact this shaft has movement. If you look at the vid, the shaft going up the wheel wobbles a bit, it's not the u joint even if it looks like it. Idk if it's meant to be like this? Would appreciate if someone could check theirs.
