Hi guys after abit of advice, making progress with my defender restoration but I'm stumped on the steering ball joint. I've decided to renew the drop arm ball joint whilst it's on the vehicle. I've taken all the bits out but there's a collar at the top and was wondering if it should be taken out or wether It stays in the arm. It looks to be in a bad way as it's bent etc. I've included a picture so if anyone could advise me that would be great. Cheers Andy

there is often a collar that sits over that but whats in pic is part of arm ,unless your refering to top seat of joint which needs replacing

Mine was exactly like that and the new gaiter just wont hold onto the lip properly and soon after came adrift, a year later I just fitted a whole new arm Britpart with the G on the end good as gold under 40 quid Iirc.
