Hi.

Failed my MOT on a poxy split rubber on the drop arm ball joint. Nothing else wrong with the car. Even the ball joint itself is sound with no play.

Can I get a replacement rubber on it's own or do I have to buy the whole kit and caboodle?

How easy is it to replace the drop arm ball joint on my 98 Defender?
Does anyone know where I can get a replacement ball joint kit?
Do I need any special tools?
Any tips from anyone who has done this.

Loads of questions but I'm ****ed off that I've got to take the car back and pay a retest fee if I don'f fix it within 7 days. :(

Cheers.

Yer kin git a repair kit from any decent parts supplier - e.g. Paddocks.
Dunno if yer kin git just the rubber, but easy enough to replace just that.
Buster did a "how to" write-up - do a search.

Completely forgot about Paddocks.
Complete kit is £5.75 + vat and got one on order.
Found one on eBay but it was twice the price.
Will just change the rubber to get thru the MOT and then might get round to changing the whole thing if I can be arsed. The existing ball not worn so will probably save myself the trouble.
Cheers for the suggestions.
