I am going to change the steering damper on my Defender 90 to a Yellow Britpart Gaz one. My question is that this has different types of bushes and washers supplied with it for the threaded part to the original one. Do I just use these or do I need to use any of the old ones ?

Thanks in advance for your guidance.

I have a ****part supergaz steering damper on my 110. I fitted one to my last landy and was actually impressed enough to buy one for my current one too. The bushes supplied with them are fine. They are a nightmare to fit at the steering drop arm end though. You need to get them in the exact right position for em to fit in. You may need to compress the bush a fraction more too (about 1-2mm). You actually begin to think that there is no way on earth it will ever fit.

Is there much difference between the standard and the ****part one then ratty mate? Only reason ah'm askin' is that ah've got the H/D springs and shox but still usin' the standard steerin' damper;)

If you are experiencing wheel judder, wandering etc then yes you should notice the difference. If not then you shouldn't need the uprated one. I just fit a steering damper to any landy I buy as a matter of course. Mine was fecked on both my present and previous landy so the improvement was obvious. The supergaz ones are often on offer for the same or less than the standard ones. I think I paid £9.99 for mine.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, had to file the bush down to get it to fit OK.

Have noticed the improvement already, I didn't realise how much play / movement / judder that there was before.

The reason for changing was a MOT advisory.
