hi can any one tell me is a steering damper same as a rear suspenson unit
the reason i ask is i have a new rear suspension unit and would like to make a steering damper thanks in advance

:welcome2: IIRC Shock absorbers return to full extension when not compressed, a steering damper will stay where you compress/extend it to. Also the threaded end is too thick for the chassis mount and the eye is massivley too big to fit into the drag link bracket.
You would be better off buying one for £20 than trying to engineer your own. Sorry to put a downer on it but i reckon its more hassle than it's worth

Not all of them, oil filled ones act like that but gas charged steering dampers will always extend. Contrary to popular myth gas charged ones don't make you drive around in circles or even leave you fighting to hold the vehicle straight.
