Steering damper bush?

I need to get the following bush replaced for the MOT on my 300tdi Defender. So that I can order the correct part, what is the split bush shown in this photo called please? And is it easy to remove or would a press be needed?

If all is ok under the boot you could buy a drop arm ball joint repair kit and simply fit the boot

I prefer to use the kits that come with a solid retaining clip rather than the ones with the crappy wire cabletie sort of thing. I find the solid ones stay good for longer.

you can buy universal track rod boots if you so wished...

Thanks johnlad & ratty. My mechanic will be replacing it but Im supplying him the parts. Do you think it will be easier for him to repair with the repair kit, or just replace the whole arm complete with boot? Hes a good bloke and I want to make it as easy as possible for him.

Though I see the genuine arms are bloody expensive!! I assume the pattern copy parts are good enough?

Arms can be a *unt to get off. replace the joint in situ aint too bad. getting the cup out is the worst bit. if your lazy, leave it in and just use the other new bits! 20 mins job done :)

If it's just the boot that is damaged and all is well underneath then it will be easier to just fit that. If it's notchy, loose, corroded etc underneath then it's worth changing it all.

The first time I needed a needed to change my drop arm ball joint I bought a whole new arm. I then fitted a repair kit to the old arm ready for when it was needed next. The last time I changed it some fecker at work binned the arm I'd taken off.:mad::mad::mad:
