OP, IMHO, you're playing with fire here, largely due to what Gazbo mentioned above - IF you fix it improperly and have a further issue where the vehicle condition is questioned, you could end up with a legal mess that will make you think this current issue is a walk in the park.

Do you have motor legal protection on your motor insurance? OR legal expenses insurance on you household policy? If so, then, IMHO invoke them, and get this sorted properly, employing the services of any appropriate professionals as required.

If you are "rebuilding" anything worse than a cat c or d, then be very very careful. YMMV.
