Good afternoon all,

I'm just getting around to bolting up the steering wheel to my rebuild project, but it seems like I'm missing something.

As per the photos below, I've got the indicator cancel lug/spacer, spring then the wheel. I can't see anything missing from the parts diagram, but the lugs on the spacer are too far from the wheel to engage in the holes.

The wheel is as far down the splines as it can go.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Have you actually tightened the wheel down properly. I seem to remember mine wasn't a close fit but having done the steer wheel nut up, it did work

Yes that's with the nut tightened.

Parts diagram says spring on top closest the wheel, as per my photo, but having just tried it with the spring below the spacer it all seems to fit nicely...

Thanks, that's how I have it now and it seems okay, but the part diagram shows the other way.

I had the spring under the collar/canceller, as you have it now. My collar looked like yours, not like part 589553, so I'd suggest the diagram doesn't apply to the collar we have.

The diagram does look very odd. Not sure what use the spring has in that position. It makes a lot more sense for it to be pushing on the upper column bearing.

Well we can't both be wrong! Thanks all for the help, I'll leave it as it is unless it causes big problems.

The parts book is wrong according to the Workshop manual.
