changing collum on my 48 spline to get a 36 spline to fit a different steering wheel
Before I drill my ignition barrel out will I have to change this part as well?

i presume you mean drill the 2 snapped security screws holding lock and switch assembly , steering ujs should fit on your replacement coloumn

When I took mine off I discovered the security screws were quite soft. I managed to cut a slot in them and unscrewed them with a flat blade screwdriver. Used them again on re-assembly.

The heads on mine had, IIRC, two diametrically opposed raised quarters so that some sort of special tool would key in to it. Unfortunately, this pic I've found is a bit blurred so you can't see the raised quarters very well, but you can see the slots I cut in. They unscrewed no bother after that.

You must have chosen a very specific wheel to make you change the column.
Aftermarket wheels are available with different boss-kits to fit both 36 & 48 spline columns so I assume you are fitting a LR wheel from a different year (obviously LR wheels don't have an interchangeable boss)?
