Hi, I'm new to land rover and seek advice from all you knowledgeable types here. I am currently in the process of converting a 1947 American pickup truck to right hand drive and am stuck finding a suitable steering box cross style. Looking at many styles it would seen a likely contender could be a discovery 1 power steer unit. However the box will need fitting behind my axle so will need to rotate the drop arm ( pitman arm) by 180 degrees . Not being familiar with these ( or even seen one in the flesh) I don't know if this is possible with master splines etc. Any ideas please?
Oh and would you have an idea of the taper angle for the tie rod end. Many thanks ,Steve

check on any you buy but they usually have the ability to fit front or back

I'll get some more pic soon . This is as it was made , left hand drive with the box behind the axle and pitman arm facing forward and a drag link to the off side steering arm. I need to duplicate this on the off side due to clearance issues the position of the new box must be inside the chassis rail.

a disco rhd drive box could have drop arm facing rewards but it would need to bolt to inside of chassis rail youd need a lhd box to fit on outside of rail

Thanks for your reply, here are a few more pics to help describe the situation . As you can see the new box has to fit inside the chassis rail with the drop arm shaft closest to the engine so the drop arm does not foul the leaf spring.

a rhd disco box would fit there but drop arm would pass under chassis rail, there are 2 types of drop arm that can be fitted, both can be lhd or rhd arms which alters arm angle by perhaps 20 degrees though thats a guess
