Steering box replacement and TRE set up question

I've replace the steering box (with recon box), all the TREs, the drop arm and ball joint and the steering column UJS. Question about setting up the steering?

I've measured all the TREs and replaced so everything fits back nicely with the wheels in the position they were when i took everything off (not going to lie they weren't completely straight when I took it all apart).

Do I need to do anything else to set up the steering? I was just going to bolt it all back together, bleed the box and get someone to check the tracking?
 
The replacement recon box I fitted about 18 months ago had a sticker on it to say it was centered during the finishing.
All I did was have everything in a straight line when I took the old one off, new one fitting straight on. No problems, I can't remember but think I might have checked the tracking.

just ensure box is centered when wheels are running straight,by centering box then ensuring steering wheel is set correct,then drive the vehicle straight if steering whel becomes offset leave it as is and adjust the drag link till steering wheel is corrected,drive further and readjust if necessary

that means the box is centered ie it has equal lock each side of center,it might not be when fitted to the vehicle that depends on drag link length

Think I must have been lucky then, everything went back sweet as a nut, I have the same lock each way.

not necessarily as box usually has more lock than the wheels,the only way to know is to set box centeral with a pin if your drop arm has the slot or count turns with drag link disconnected then see were steering wheel sits

just so I’m clear.
1. Bolt lt it all up. Set wheels straight and set steering wheel to straight position
2. Centre box with slot and hole
3. Adjust drag link to fit
4. Drive
5. Readjust is steering wheel moves off centre

set box and steering wheel first,then drag link
 
Ok great. Even is It’s a new box and I drained the pump as well?
Pour the stuff in, take it steady, when it is up to the level, start up, run it for a minute, and switch off.
Then top up, start again, turn the wheel a few times, and switch off again.
Repeat as needed. You will see froth and air bubbles come up in the reservoir each time, which is the air coming out.
Keep topping up the fluid to about the level, and you won't have a problem.
 
Ok great. Even is It’s a new box and I drained the pump as well?
yes ,just fill system as soon as its fitted,then let it settle ,then top up prior to starting engine and doing the lock to lock,youlll need to get tracking set before adjusting the drag link, if steering wheel is set with box in center position youll know when driving straight because of the steering wheel whether box is central when car is been driven

I'm going to get the tracking done by the garage. I'll bolt it all back together, i've measure all the TRE fairly accurately so Its pretty much as it was when I took everything off. Once they've done the tracking I'll bring it home and finely adjust the steering box centring? Does that sound reasonable?

Also quick question - how tight should the steering column UJ bolts be? I think the manual says 45nm which seem a bit too tight and bent one of the bolts

thats what i do,the pinch bolts just need to be nipped up,its the fact they sit in groove in the shafts that ensures uj cant slide off
