I wonder if anyone can advise me on the best way to set up my steering box. It’s on a 2000 TD5 but it’s had a recon unit fitted and I just can’t get a positive feedback.

What do you mean by set it up?
Any adjustments will be in the workshop manual but don't discount the fact a recon might actually be no good. Half arsed recon would mean change the seals and paint it black.
Remember you also have the UJs on the steering column and all other steering components to check.

Foolishly I used a recon unit and it was about the same time I realised that recon units these days are not what they used to be! Having said that, it’s what I have so…

I find that tightening the 6mm adjuster on the top by about 1/8th of a turn tightens up the steering nicely. However, after about 30-40 miles it starts getting sloppy again. I don’t know if I should just keep adjusting it or and hope I find a sweet spot or sack it off as a dud.
