Hey,

Looked under my defender 90 yesterday to have a look at my steering box and the drop arm is covered in what seems to be fluid.

My steering works fine apart form funny noise at full lock (but i know that could be normal) so not sure what to do.

On the internet i have seen a re-seal kit which would be a dam site cheaper than a new or reconditioned box.

Has anyone any advive on this kit or used one before? or am i best of saving up for new box?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

mat

Sorry, don't know much about steering box kits but would say are you sure it's steering fluid that's leaking, rather than something else leaking onto it?

Check the steering fluid level for starters (a top up might help your funny noise on full lock) and look for anything else that may be leaking.

if you can get drop arm off fitting kit isnt too bad if you remove circlip and start engine to blow backing washer and seal out with tub underneath obviously ,if shaft is very worn might not last long but you wouldnt know tillyou tried

I put some brake fluid in mine and hey presto no leak, apparently it causes the seals to expand re-sealing them, been like it now for about 30,000 miles and no probs
