Does anyone know if you can get a heavy duty drop arm for a 300tdi defender. The standard ones seem to get play in them very quickly.

if you mean in ball joint , fit a disco one that has balljoint screwed into drag link ,easy to replace and h/d ones can be easily bought, you would need to attach damper bracket to drag link or move damper to track rod

Hes right, its the only solution for a road vehicle,to make maintenance easier. Have you been using pattern replacements? this would explain the short life you are experiencing or is it a lifted truck?

Depends the disco one is the way to go TBH. But as said you need to buy:
Disco Arm: NTC9236 | Drop Arm RHD
Pic here: NTC9236 - Google Search

Then you need a steering damper relocation clamp mount to convert from a disco stering damper which is crap to a defender type as you already have

Like this:
Discovery Damper Relocation Kit | LRS Offroad

Not sure if it comes with the HD arm (I would hope so for the Price).

Main failure of them is split rubbers and lack of grease. I used to put grease nipples into the bottom of the ball joint however they get wiped off every half decent comp so stopped bothering with it. For gentle laning it should help with keeping grease in there as for splits not too much you can do. Some people used to run the plastic covers you get when you buy a new balljoint but I have never done this. Pumping it full of grease works quite well if you can keep the rubber from splitting.

Double check that droip arm part No because it was a googled item and not checked on Rave as yet. wrong comp to check. Jai

You can get Rear A frame adjustable Ball joints but not anything for the small steering joints well none that I've seen

Sounds a bit more than I want to spend. An adjustable one would be better or one that could be greased.

Not seen adjustable ones but I'm sure somone must do somthing. Reason they wear is because they get crap in them and the grease when rebuilt (Usually no grease gets in) I guess you could use a grease nipple in the bottom and put a bung in pita but would keep it greased/lubricated

Dunno what an insurance company would say about welding components on the drag link in the case of a really serious accident. It can be done safely for sure and somthing I would probably do on a comp motor (banned in my comps tho for the avoidance of doubt in case of failure) but its an option!

Yea plenty of options.

I'm quite wary of s/h drop arms. Plenty I've have had s/h had previously been run loose and have lost the good taper fit they should have. They are usually scrap then.

Farrar.

This one with some built in protection should last longer than my one that got wiped out in a few days.

Plenty of cleaning up to do and still have to clean up the welds inside so the nipple sits flush out of harms way.

not saying this one will last forever but keeping clean grease in there can only help.
